The Soft Armor

Care for your edges without hardening your center. Armor need not cover every tender place; strengthen your edges while keeping a doorway for warmth.

A quilted vest is not a shield. It is layers of soft cloth stitched close enough to keep the cold out, and it still bends when you reach for something. This card points at the difference between a boundary and a wall: the meeting you leave on time, the topic you set aside for now, the evening you keep for yourself. None of that requires going cold inside. The rose next to the vest is still uncovered, still open to the air. You can be careful about where your time and attention go and remain warm at the center, the way a well-padded coat keeps the heat rather than making it.

You might take a quiet minute to notice one edge that has been asking for a little more padding: a conversation, an hour, a habit of saying yes. Picture the vest going on over it, soft and light, and then picture the rose still open underneath. Let both be true for the length of a few slow breaths.
