The Blue Hour

Trust the soft interval between one certainty and another. Twilight holds two truths without forcing either away, making space for a more generous understanding.

For a short while each evening the sky is neither day nor night. The shoreline is still visible, but the edges soften, and the water and the air take on the same color. This card points at the in-between hours of a life: the job you have left and the one not yet begun, the answer you have stopped defending but have not replaced. It is tempting to hurry through such intervals to reach solid ground. The blue hour suggests another way. Two things can be partly true at once, and standing in that light for a while tends to show more than either certainty did alone.

One way to hold this today is to step outside near dusk, or sit by a window, and take ten slow breaths while the light changes. Notice what is unclear and let it stay unclear for the length of the breathing. Afterward, name one thing you are grateful not to have decided yet.
