The Unlocked Gate

Freedom may begin with releasing an old permission slip. An unlocked gate leaves the choice with you; freedom includes moving only at your own honest pace.

The gate is open, and the key is right there on the post. Nobody is guarding it. This card points at the rules you are still following long after the person who made them stopped watching: the way you apologize for taking up space, the hobby you gave up because someone once called it silly, the idea that you have to earn a slow morning. Most of those permissions were never yours to ask for. Standing at an open gate is stranger than standing at a locked one, because the only thing holding you is habit. You can step through today, or tomorrow, or not yet. The choice is quietly, entirely yours.

You might sit quietly for a few minutes and think of one rule you follow that nobody currently enforces. Say it plainly to yourself, without arguing for or against it. Then step outside, even just to the doorway, and notice how the air feels on the other side of that small threshold. You can go back in whenever you like.
