The River Permission

Allow one feeling to move without naming its destination. A river gives feeling room to move without turning its current into a command or a destination.

A leaf on a river is not going anywhere in particular. It turns, it catches on a reed, it comes loose again, and the river keeps carrying it without asking where it means to end up. This card points at the feeling in your day that you have been trying to file: the sadness that arrived without a reason, the restlessness under the ordinary tasks, the gladness you did not expect. A feeling that is allowed to move does not have to become a decision. It does not have to be named or explained or turned into a plan. It only has to be given some room and a little current. Most feelings pass through when they are not asked to justify themselves first.

One way to hold this today is to let one feeling move on paper or in sound: a few loose lines, a hum, a color put down without a subject. You can leave its destination unnamed. When you are done, offer it up in whatever way is yours, a quiet prayer or simply a breath out, and let it keep going.
