The Fallen Petal

Beauty does not vanish when its form changes. A fallen petal remains inside the flower's story; changing form does not end its beauty.

A petal on the soil is not a flower that went wrong. It is the same petal that was lovely an hour ago, now doing a different part of its work. This card turns your attention to what is ending in ordinary ways around you: a phase of a friendship, a job that has run its course, a version of yourself that used to fit. The ending does not cancel what came before. The soil is dark because so much has already fallen into it and become something a root can use. You can grieve a shape and still see the whole story it belonged to.

You might step outside for a few minutes and look for one thing in the middle of changing form: a leaf half turned, a petal on the path, bark peeling away. Stay with it a little longer than feels natural. Notice that it is still worth looking at, and let that be enough.
