The Turning Leaf

Release can be a change of color before a letting go. A leaf changes through a long conversation with season, proving movement can begin before release.

A leaf does not fall all at once. First it turns, slowly, from the edges in, and it stays on the branch for weeks in its new color before the wind takes it. This card points at the part of releasing that happens before the letting go: the friendship you are still in but see differently, the role that fits a little looser than it did, the habit you notice more than you follow. Nothing has dropped yet. Something has already changed. The color is the honest part. It says that movement has begun, and that the falling does not have to be forced.

You might find one leaf outside, or picture one, that has started to turn at the edges while it is still on the branch. Spend a few minutes writing down only what you see: the new shade, the part still green, how firmly it holds. Nothing about your own life has to go on the page yet.
