The Mossy Door

Moss does not rush a door. It settles on the sill, then the hinge, then the panel, one soft inch a season, until the door and the green are hard to tell apart. It looks like standing a little nearer today than yesterday. Time works with the person who keeps showing up. The door is not going anywhere, and neither is your curiosity.

One way to hold this today is to clean one threshold in your home: the doormat shaken out, the sill wiped, the handle rubbed with a cloth. Take it slowly, the way moss would. Afterward, write a line or two in a notebook about what it was like to tend an edge without crossing it. Nothing on the other side has to be decided yet.
