The Resting Garden

Nothing living blooms without a season of pause. A resting garden is not empty; beneath the visible pause, roots are gathering what they need.

In winter a garden bed looks like nothing is happening. Frost sits on the surface, the stalks are cut back, and underneath the roots are quietly taking in water and holding on. This card points at the paused places in your life: the project set down, the friendship gone quiet for a season, the ambition you have not touched in months. A pause like this is not the same as an ending. Something is being gathered that cannot be gathered while you are producing. You are allowed to let the surface stay bare for a while. The garden knows the difference between empty and resting, even on the days when you forget it.

You might clear one small surface today, a shelf, a corner of the desk, the top of the dresser, and leave it bare on purpose. Then say thank you for one thing that is resting in your life right now, instead of asking when it starts again. Let the bare place stay bare until tomorrow.
