The Morning Chime

A chime carries farthest in the first hour, before traffic and voices fill the air. The stillness is what lets the note be heard. This card points at the few minutes at the start of your day before anything has claimed it: the kettle not yet on, the phone still face down, the mind not yet arguing. That is when the clearest thing about today is easiest to hear. It might be a single task that matters more than the others, or a person you want to reach, or simply the wish to move slowly. Tomorrow, or later today if the morning has passed, you might sit for one minute before picking anything up. Listen to whatever sound is present, a fan, birds, the house settling around you. Then name the one thing that feels clearest, and thank the quiet for letting you hear it before the rest of the day begins.
