Compatibility and synastry readings

Last updated

A synastry reading compares two birth charts to describe how two people meet each other — where it is easy, where it grinds, and what each person tends to ask of the other. You commission it from an independent astrologer on Divina with both sets of birth data. Readings of this kind typically run $30 to $60.

Synastry, composite, and which one you want

These are two different techniques and astrologers price them differently, so it is worth knowing which you are asking for before you look at listings.

  • Synastry — the two charts laid against each other, aspect by aspect. It describes the dynamic between two specific people: what one person's Venus does to the other's Saturn, and what that tends to feel like from each side.
  • Composite — the two charts mathematically merged into a single third chart, read as though the relationship itself were a person with its own temperament.
  • Both together — the common full reading, and the one most worth the money if you are buying only one. Synastry says how you meet; composite says what the thing between you is like.

The data it takes, and whose it is

A synastry reading needs date, exact time and place of birth for both people. Time matters as much here as it does for a natal chart: without it the houses and the angles are guesswork, and half of what synastry has to say about daily life is in the houses.

Which raises the part most listings skip. The second set of birth data is not yours. Ask the other person before you commission the reading. Most astrologers on Divina will ask you whether you have, and some will decline the work if the answer is no — not as a formality, but because a reading commissioned about someone who does not know it is happening is a different thing from a reading two people buy together.

Divina lists protective, healing and intention-positive work only. Nothing baneful, nothing coercive, and nothing worked to bend another person's will.

What it will not tell you

It will not tell you whether to stay, whether they are cheating, whether they will come back, or when. An astrologer reading synastry can say that a pairing has a hard Saturn contact and describe what that tends to demand over time. They cannot read another person's private conduct off a chart, and no practitioner on Divina may claim to.

The useful version of the question is not "are we compatible" — charts do not score. It is "what does this pairing keep running into, and what does each of us tend to do when it does". That is a reading somebody can actually write, and one you can act on.

What it costs and what you receive

Two charts is roughly twice the work of one, and the pricing reflects it: a focused synastry reading generally runs $30 to $60, against $25 to $40 for a single natal chart. The price and the delivery window are both on the listing before you commit. You receive the written reading, and depending on the listing, the chart images and an audio or video walkthrough.

How commissioning works

You describe your intention in your own words, pay when you place the request, and a private chat opens with the practitioner. They perform the work inside the delivery window stated on the listing and share proof when it is done.

Proof is evidence the work was performed, not evidence that it worked: the written reading itself, a photo of the spread or the altar, a recording, or a description of what was done and when.

Both sets of birth data go to the practitioner performing the work and nowhere else. Every practitioner is hand reviewed before their shop goes live, and Divina takes 10% of completed orders — the astrologer keeps the rest and sets the price you see.

No practitioner on Divina may guarantee an outcome, and none of this is a substitute for medical, legal, financial or mental health care.

Common questions

What is a synastry reading?

A synastry reading compares two people's birth charts aspect by aspect to describe the dynamic between them — where the contact is easy, where it is abrasive, and what each person tends to ask of the other. It needs date, exact time and place of birth for both people.

What is the difference between synastry and a composite chart?

Synastry lays two charts against each other and reads the contacts between them, so it describes how two specific people meet. A composite merges the two charts into a single third chart read as though the relationship itself had a temperament. Many astrologers offer both in one reading, which is the fuller purchase.

Do I need my partner's permission to get a compatibility reading?

You need their birth data, and you should ask. The second chart belongs to someone who is not the buyer, and some astrologers on Divina will ask whether the other person knows and may decline the work if they do not. A reading two people commission together is a different thing from one commissioned about someone unaware of it.

Can a synastry reading tell me if my relationship will last?

No. No practitioner on Divina may guarantee or predict an outcome. An astrologer can describe what a pairing tends to run into and what it asks of each person, which is what the technique actually supports. Charts do not produce a compatibility score, and a listing promising one is not describing astrology.

What if I do not know their exact birth time?

The reading can still be done, but the houses and the angles become unreliable, and a large part of what synastry says about day-to-day life lives there. Say so when you commission it — astrologers will tell you what is still readable without a time, and some will price a no-time reading differently.

How much does a compatibility reading cost?

Generally $30 to $60, since two charts is roughly twice the work of one. Every astrologer sets their own price, and the price and delivery window are stated on the listing before you commit.
